Burning Man is an annual event held in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, in the US. Tens of thousands of people gather to form the Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis dedicated to self-expression, art, community and alternative life. The event begins on the last Monday in August and ends one week later, were the participants leave the site with no trace of a festival having taken place. The name of the festival comes from the ritual burning of a large wooden man (picture below) on Saturday evening.
There are no rules about how to behave or express oneself during the festival. Each individual must find out how they will contribute and provide for the community. The art and self-expression are a big part of the event and have produced many amazing, alternative and odd installations over the years. Get a glimpse from the pictures below.
