Every year in the end of August the tomato festival La Tomatina is held in Buñol, Spain. To put it simple, it’s a giant tomato fight for fun where participants throw tomatos at each other. The fight begins by trucks entering the scene of Plaza del Pueblo throwing tomatos around. For the next hour tomatos are thrown everywhere by everyone completely coloring the town and the participants red. It is highy recommended to use goggles and gloves to avoid injuries and it is also mandatory to crush the tomato before throwing. It is estimated that 150.000 tomatos in total are used in the fight. They come from the region of Extremadura, being of inferior taste and cheap, grown specifically for the festivities. After the fight the streets are hosed down by fire trucks.
